![]() It was added as part of the Marine World expansion pack. The ocean sunfish (under the name of Moonfish) is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park 2. It is assumed that he may grow to be over 100 years old. The moonfish can be found in all tropical and subtropical waters. With 15 cm, its skin is also the thickest of all forms of life on this planet. The moonfish, with its Latin name derived from the shape of its millstone-like body, is the largest bony fish in the world, with a length of up to 3 metres and a maximum weight of over 2 tonnes. Although generally solitary, ocean sunfish will allow other fish and seabirds to clean its skin from the many species of parasite that infect it. Its teeth are fused into a beak-like structure and although generally slow-moving, sunfish can move quite rapidly to escape predators and are able to vertically leap out of water. It feeds on a variety of food including jellyfish, squid, smaller fish and sometimes eelgrass. The ocean sunfish is native to tropical and temperate oceans across the world. The ocean sunfish gets its name due to its habit of sunbathing on the ocean's surface. The ocean sunfish has a distinctive laterally-flattened body with a comparatively short tail and large dorsal- and anal-fins, giving the sunfish a height greater than its length - an average sunfish reaches lengths of 1.8m (5.11ft) and heights of 2.5m (8.2ft) across its fins. Adults can reach weights of 1000kg (2205lbs), although some individuals may weigh even more. The ocean sunfish, or Common Mola, is a relative of pufferfish and the largest-living bony fish.
